Data Engineer Non-Financial Risk & People Analytics - Internship

Create your own future

As a Data Engineer Intern at the Digital Innovation & Analytics department, you will join the Non-Financial Risk and People Analytics team. You will work in a multidisciplinary Scrum team in which you are responsible for automating business processes and building data products that inform and drive decision-making, such as models, dashboards, and AI solutions, focusing on the following domains: Compliance, Non-financial Risk, Internal Control, and HR. Join the team and start shaping the future of Wealth Management leveraging data and AI.

Ready to build the next generation of data and AI solutions? In this internship, you’ll work on cutting-edge data pipelines and help bring them to production in a modern, cloud-based environment.

You’ll get hands-on experience redesigning and modularizing existing pipelines, migrating them to Databricks, and integrating shared components into advanced analytics solutions. This is a great opportunity to not only learn the latest technologies and use several AI assistants, but also to apply them in a real-world setting with direct impact.

You’ll play a key role in making our solutions robust, scalable, and easy to maintain — transforming innovative ideas into reliable systems that are used across the organization.

If you’re curious, eager to learn, and excited to work at the intersection of data, AI, and engineering, this internship will give you both the responsibility and support to grow quickly.

That is what you will use your talents for as a Data Engineer Intern at Van Lanschot Kempen. You will help transform existing prototypes and pipelines into a production-ready data platform. This includes migrating core workflows from Azure Data Factory to Databricks and integrating shared components into our analytics solutions in a structured and maintainable way.

You also have the following tasks:

  • Designing clean, testable Databricks workflows.

  • Add monitoring, logging and basic alerting to make data flows transparent and auditable for risk stakeholders.

  • Work on data-quality checks and validation steps so that issues in upstream systems are detected early.

  • Help improve code structure, documentation and CI/CD practices so the solution is easy to maintain and extend.

  • Collaborate with colleagues from NFRA and other Analytics Cluster teams to align on data models, interfaces and reuse of the shared library.

  • Analyse pipeline runs and usage patterns to identify bottlenecks, cost drivers and improvement opportunities.

Your talents

Curious, structured, self-motivated and resourceful. This is how we can best describe you in the position of Data Engineer Intern. This internship is for someone who can be given a goal, think critically about how to approach it and independently find the best path forward. You do not need every step laid out for you: you enjoy exploring unfamiliar topics, testing different solutions, asking the right questions and turning ambiguity into clear, reliable solutions. And all will be well if you also combine technical curiosity with a practical mindset and enjoy building solutions that real stakeholders can rely on.

 You also have:

  • You are currently completing or already have a degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science or a related technical field.

  • Good knowledge of Python and SQL, ideally gained through projects, internships or thesis work.

  • A strong focus on writing clean, well-structured and maintainable code.

  • Affinity with cloud data platforms (preferably Azure) and knowledge of, or strong interest in, working with Databricks.

  • A basic understanding of concepts like ETL/ELT, data quality, logging and version control (e.g. Git).

  • A willingness to learn and apply good engineering practices such as testing and CI/CD.

  • Good mastery of English, both oral and written.
