The many facets of our different departments
Our department is in almost constant contact with De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB). We are also responsible for a whole range of models for stress tests, covering such risks as credit and market risks. If you join us, you will probably spend a lot of time making these models even better. One challenge we often face is to translate this complex information into easy to read, accessible documentation. This way, we operate within sensible parameters and keep our organisation solid and stable.
You assist your colleagues as a true business partner, continuously challenged to be critical and ask the right questions in order to advise proactively on risks. You strive for commercially responsible decisions with a sharp focus on customer orientation, integrity, risk assessment, and compliance with laws and regulations. It primarily involves living and promoting integrity in the interest of our customers. You feel comfortable interpreting complex data and are able to assess potential risks associated with new technological developments and innovations developed by VLK.

Making mistakes is human, particularly when people work with complex processes and systems. It’s our mission to assess whether the processes and activities within our organisation are performed effectively and identify improvements to limit the number of mistakes or deviatons, enhancing and protecting organizational value. If we encounter deviations, we discuss together with the responsible teams how to structurally improve, so that we continuously help our organization ensuring that goals, policies and procedures match.
You will be working in a team of around 16 colleagues in our Internal Audit department. The size of our team enables you to make a noticeable impact with your work right away. As you’re working in your own “niche”, we highly value entrepreneurship and independence combined with a cooperative spirit to ensure knowledge sharing within our team and leveraging on each others’ skills and capabilities. You will be given plenty of space to develop both by the diversity of our work and by (in-house) training for any specialist skills you would like to acquire. Our function covers the whole of our organization, giving you plenty room to get to know all aspects of Van Lanschot Kempen while working with us.
Our core responsibilities are:
- Advising the business
- Handling claims and legal proceedings
- Corporate support
- Advising on new laws and regulations
Our department employs 20 lawyers who all have their own expertise, but at the same time are broadly applicable. Of course you must have an affinity with financial law, but as legal counsel you must also be solution-oriented and able to take responsibility. You have to have a practical and commercial attitude and be able to translate legal content into business decisions.
